The USGBC has announced that the deadline for registering under the LEED 2009 rating system has been extended to October 31, 2016, with the sunset date for certification remaining the same. The USGBC is doing this in response to feedback they received at Greenbuild. The move allows the building industry more time to prepare for the new standards set by LEED v4. Some may view this as a step back, but any step towards a more sustainable built environment, whether v2009 or v4, is a step in the right direction.
