IFMA Sustainable Facilities Professional Credential Program

An opportunity to take the IFMA Sustainable Facilities Professional (SFP) certification course will be coming to our area in 2013!

Where: UNO's College of Business Administration, Mammel Hall, 6708 Pine Street, Omaha, NE

When - (choose from one of two sessions):
Session-1: March 7, 8, 13, 14, 15
Session-2: May 20, 21, 22, 30, 31
 
Course Fee: $1100 (this includes all course materials)

In addition to the SFP credential, LEED-certified professionals earn 70 general CE hours for CMP.

Note that this is a reduced fee thanks to a grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) and presents a unique opportunity to take this course at 1/2 the cost as is offered anywhere else in the country.

Call for Proposals Now Open: Greening the Heartland / BUILDING Chicago 2013

September 9-12 will be exciting for the Illinois Chapter and Heartland Region of USGBC. Greening the Heartland and BUILDINGChicago are joining forces to present four days of education, networking opportunities and more.

The Advisory Committee of the co-located BUILDINGChicago/Greening the Heartland events is now accepting proposals for presenters and topics. Click here to learn more. All proposals must be submitted online by February 8, 2013.

In this tenth anniversary of Greening the Heartland (GTH), the U.S. Green Building Council's Midwest regional conference, we want to encourage robust discussion of how the Heartland's building industry is evolving to embed resilience into its solutions for the built environment as focused in the topic following topic areas: Health & Environmental Quality, High Performance Buildings & Building Science, Design for Resilience, Green Technologies & Materials, Natural Capitalism, Sustainable Community & Campus, Process, and more. The GTH track will be extended to run through the BUILDINGChicago conference offering added opportunities for sharing green building best practices and continuing education for LEED Accredited Professionals.

BUILDINGChicago is a new event sponsored by the publishers of Building Design+Construction magazine. BUILDINGChicago will provide a wide variety of educational and networking opportunities built upon the strong track record of high quality, AIA-accredited education for architects through BD+C University. BD+C University offers architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners/developers who specialize in the commercial, industrial, and institutional markets a convenient educational platform available online 24/7 from anywhere in the world.

All proposals must be submitted online. You may begin the submission process and return to your saved proposal any time up until the submission deadline of February 8, 2013. Faxed or mailed proposals will not be accepted.

USGBC Monthly Lunch January 2013 - IFMA SFP

Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013
Time: 12pm - 1:00pm (check in begins at 11:30am)

We are excited to start our monthly USGBC lunch and learn events for 2013! Please note that we will be at a new location this year:  Trane at 5720 S 77th St in Ralston.  

Costs will stay the same as last year ($15 for members, $25 for nonmembers, and $10 for students). Lunch is included.

Our first speaker, Carrie Dahl with IFMA Education, will be speaking about the recent approval of the IFMA Sustainability Facilities Professional (SFP) credential for GBCI credits along with the Facility Management Professional (FMP).  

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is offering an SFP course this spring with the only opportunity in the nation to take advantage of grant funding from a state agency, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ). SFP Instructor Rick Yoder will also be answering questions regarding the course offering and how the content of the SFP applies to the USGBC and LEED professionals. 

Yoder will also tie the IFMA training to the education needs identified by the Omaha LEED community through the "What Follows LEED?"sessions held at UNO College of Business Administration.

Greening the Heartland 2013

Scranton-Gillette Communications / SGC Horizon and the U.S. Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter (USGBC-Illinois) in conjunction with the USGBC Heartland Regional Council announced plans to co-locate their events in 2013, BUILDINGChicago and Greening the Heartland respectively.  “After looking at the complementary nature of our two events,” explained Harry Urban, VP of Events for SGC, “both groups decided it would bring added value to attendees and exhibitors to schedule our 2013 events in the same location.”  The co-located events will be held at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza.
Greening the Heartland (GTH), USGBC’s annual Midwest event, will be held September 9 and 10, followed by BUILDINGChicago, September 10-12.  “We are excited to be working with SGC with their extensive background in providing quality education through BD+C University,” said Katie Kaluzny, Interim Executive Director U.S. Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter.
She added, “The GTH track will be extended to run through the BUILDINGChicago conference offering added opportunities for sharing green building best practices and continuing education for LEED Accredited Professionals.
